AETUTS+ & Zaxwerks Challenge

I am ecstatic that I'm able to say that I've taken first place in the AETUTS+ and Zaxwerks Challenge. Combined with my recent win in Motionworks' Digieffects Challenge, that makes two major motion graphics competitions in a row. AETUTS+ and Zaxwerks got together to do a promotional contest to show off what can be done with the ProAnimator software inside of Adobe After Effects. As a way to open the contest up to everyone they allowed the for ProAnimator to be used for a month with out limitations for free. I've been a fan of ProAnimator for a long while so I decided to take part. Here's what I came up with:

The challenge I gave myself in this one was to come up with a technique to have the text write itself on in 3D space. This effect is common to do with 2D text to simulate a hand written effect using the "stroke" or "write on" effects in AE. It's a lot more time consuming to do in 3D though. I'm working on a better method to automate some of the process and once it's perfect I may do some tutorials about it. I also experimented with Trapcode Particular 2 and Video Copilot's Optical Flares to create this look.

I was honored to find out that the animation became a featured video over at Harry Frank's Motion Exchange motion graphics network. I put a lot into this piece from the timing, feel and appearance to composing to music to give it the edge I was looking for, so it was nice to get that nod of approval from the motion graphics community.
